Hay Tours is a community organisation managed by Hay History Group.

All of our guides are local volunteers who enjoy bringing the stories of Hay to life, many of which can be uncovered just by walking along the main streets of the town.

The project received start-up support from Brecon Beacons National Park, via the Sustainable Development Fund and Hay Chamber of Commerce. We are endorsed by various local organisations including Hay Tourist Group, Hay Tourist Information Bureau, Hay Town Council and Hay Chamber of Trade. Hay Tours also work in partnership with Hay Castle Trust to offer tours of Hay Castle.

Hay Tours is a community enterprise and all profits are put back into the organisation to cover its costs and ensure future sustainability.

The photographs on this site have been sourced or taken by local people. We extend thanks to Eric Pugh for use of his amazing collection of archive photos. Thanks also to photographers Finn Beales, Isla Hampton and Members of Hay Camera Club: Ros Coles and John Fitzgerald for the modern-day photographs.

Hay Tours are also grateful to the following for their support:

Hay on Wye Tourist Information Bureau, Brecon Beacons Tourism, Brecon Beacons National Park, Life in Hay blogspot, The Stag Inn, Lowe Farm B&B, The Tram Inn, The Swan at Hay, Lemore Manor

We would also like to remember one of tour leaders and co-founder, David Bennett who led many tours and was dedicated to researching the history of Hay. He brought passion and energy to Hay Tours and will be remembered by many. He sadly passed away in 2020.
