This tour explores Hays' Medieval history and covers the period post-Romans up to 1485. Starting at the Honesty Bookshop area, situated through an old oak gateway off Castle Street. The route then follows the town walls as much as possible and takes in the statue of Henry VII, Salem Chapel, Black Lion Gate and a section of the Wye Valley Walk where the Medieval town walls are in strongest evidence. Thereafter the route takes in Nyport Gate, down Wyeford Road (where people used to ford the River before the first bridge was built) and follows the old railway line above the River to St. Mary's Church. Passing the site of Hay's original motte & bailey castle, then back along Castle Street to end at the interpretation panels in Hay Cheese Market Hall.
