This is the perfect one-hour tour if you want a summary of Hay. It is also a perfect route for larger groups as we can split into two smaller units, one to follow the route in a clock-wise direction, the other anticlockwise.

Starting at the Swan Hotel, this route stops off at the site of the original Motte and Bailey Castle that existed before the Hay Castle we know today. It then runs up Church St, to Belmont Road, past the site of the first Hay Fire Station and Carles Gate, one of the three original gateways into the former Medieval walled town of La Haie. The route winds around Hay Clock Tower, along Lion St (past the old bear pit and Booths Books - formerly The Limited) before heading back via St John's Hall, The Bull Ring, China Market, 'Tiny House', Butter Market, Cheese Market and makes a stop in the grounds of Hay Castle on route back to the Swan.
